The National Forest Park of Troodos

Published on July 02, 2018

Cyprus has numerous national parks and nature reserves, which can range from fairly small urban parks with picnic areas, children’s playgrounds and a few paths, to large areas of countryside with extensive marked trails.

The Troodos National Forest Park is one of these, located in the Troodos mountain area in the Limassol district and it covers an area of 9147 hectares around Mount Olympus.

It is the most visited national park with nine picnic sites, three campsites and ten nature trails covering over 57 km.

One of the most famous natural trails in Troodos is the Kalidonia trail which length is about 3 km with many points of interest as the trail follows a course along Kryos Potamos river, passes the Kalidonia Fails and ends at Psilo Dendro in Pano Platres.

The amazing scenery and landscape are only some of the pros which attract someone when deciding to visit and explore the mountains of Troodos. The area is covered with significant stands of black pine, golden oak and riparian oriental plane trees. It is included in the European network of protected areas of “NATURA 2000”.
